History
There are three kinds of myths about the creation of human beings by the Rukai tribe. One is inherited by the Eastern Rukai group. According to legend, after the ancestors landed on the east coast from overseas, they settled on the east and west sides of the Central Mountain Range; the other spread in Xilu. Among the western Rukai group, the ancestors are believed to be created by the sun, clay pots or stones; there is also the oral history of the three villages in Maolin, Kaohsiung, that the ancestors originated in the Daguihu and Xiaoguihu areas of Maolin. The Rukai tribes are distributed on both sides of the southern section of the Central Mountain Range and belong to three administrative regions: Kaohsiung County, Pingtung County and Taitung County.
