History
In ancient times, there was a huge rock near the coast of Zhibenli in today's Taitung City. One day, a woman appeared when the boulder cracked. Her eyes were on her knees. After that, her heels swelled up and she became pregnant. Soon, she gave birth to a daughter. When the girl grew up, she met a man who had fled because of the flood. The two fell in love and became married. They became the ancestors of the Puyuma ethnic group.

Ritual (in Puyuma language)
- Mangamangayau (A festival that is a training for Puyuma youths before they reach adulthood.)
It is mainly through the activities and rituals of thorn monkeys to cultivate the courage and heroic spirit of killing the enemy, and to practice the virtues of unity and cooperation. The traditional monkey festival uses real monkeys as the target of juvenile assassinations. Today, it is replaced by grass monkeys, allowing modern juveniles to know the heroic side of the past in the history of the ethnic group.
