History

It is said that a long time ago, the ancestors of the Thao nationality discovered the beautiful Sun Moon Lake because of hunting and chasing a rare white deer. They returned to their original place and took their tribe to settle down in this rich and beautiful place.

Ritual (in Thao language)

Tunkarere Lus'an. (like Chinese New Year)

It is the most important ritual of the Thao people. Not every harvest festival has a Chief priest. If there is no Chief priest, the whole festival period will be shortened by about ten days. If there is a Chief priest, the whole month will be celebrated. After half of the month, they will harvest during the day and sing and dance at night. The elderly will happily drink and celebrate all day. The decision to have a priest or not is said to be related to the economic situation in the society.
